The Telegram TON blockchain, home to the Toncoin cryptocurrency, faced two outages within 24 hours due to a surge in transaction volume caused by the launch of the new DOGS token.

Telegram TON Blockchain Interruption

The Telegram TON blockchain was down for over three hours and did not produce new blocks. The outage was reportedly caused by a significant spike in usage due to the popular meme coin DOGS. The TON development team reassured users that their assets were safe, with the last blocks signed at 16:23 UTC.

High Transaction Volume Disrupts Network Stability

The new DOGS token, launched on Monday, quickly ranked among the top 75 most popular cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. The token launch was accompanied by an airdrop to 10 million users of a Telegram-based app, creating immense hype and pressure on the network. This eventually led to congestion and the blockchain collapse late on Tuesday.

Blockchain Resumption

The TON blockchain was back online on Thursday following disruptions. The issue was attributed to an abnormal spike in transaction load, which interfered with the network's consensus mechanism. Despite Telegram operating independently of TON, the cryptocurrency remains popular among users. Telegram content managers can earn and transfer TON tokens on the platform.

The Telegram TON blockchain faced significant issues due to high transaction volumes caused by the DOGS token launch. Despite the challenges, the development team quickly resolved the issues and the network resumed operation.
