Tempo, a new blockchain developed by Stripe and Paradigm, seeks to change the existing infrastructure for real-world payments, offering high throughput and stablecoin support.

New Payments Infrastructure

Tempo is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain aimed at processing real-world payments with a focus on stablecoins. Unlike general-purpose blockchains like Ethereum or Solana that often face congestion and unpredictable fees, Tempo offers a specialized network capable of processing over 100,000 transactions per second with settlement confirmation in under one second.

Strategic Move for Stripe

The launch of Tempo is the result of Stripe's evolving strategy in the crypto space. The project was first reported in August 2025 and was officially announced in September with a private testnet for select partners. This initiative is part of Stripe's efforts to create new infrastructure supporting its 'Stablecoin Financial Accounts.'

Development Steps and Features of Tempo

Tempo was developed using Reth, a Rust-based Ethereum execution layer, making it familiar to developers. It will support microtransactions, programmable finance tools, and instant payment capabilities via AI systems. Over time, Tempo plans to evolve into a fully permissionless model.

Tempo represents a significant step in cryptocurrency technology, targeting the high-volume payments and stablecoin markets, which could greatly simplify international remittances and financial operations.
