Raid on Illegal Bitcoin Mine in Thailand
In Thailand, police and electricity authorities raided an illegal Bitcoin mine in Ratchaburi after numerous complaints about frequent power outages. According to an AFP report, the mine had been fully operational since mid-July, consuming a significant amount of electricity while paying only a small part of the bills.
Malaysia’s Crackdown on Illegal Mining
In a similar effort, Malaysian authorities last week destroyed 985 illegal Bitcoin mining machines worth $452,500 as part of an ongoing crackdown on electricity theft linked to cryptocurrency mining. Sepang District Police also arrested seven individuals involved in illegal mining.
Overall Situation in Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia has become a hot spot for Bitcoin miners, attracted by affordable electricity prices and infrastructure, especially after China banned cryptocurrency mining in 2021.
Southeast Asian authorities continue active measures against illegal mining and electricity theft, striving to maintain the stable operation of power systems and punish the offenders.
