THORSwap, the decentralized exchange aggregator for THORChain, has offered a bounty to the hacker for the return of funds stolen from the founder's personal wallet.
The Hack of THORChain Founder’s Wallet
It has been established that the wallet exploited in the attack belonged to John-Paul Thorbjornsen, the founder of THORChain. The incident occurred after Thorbjornsen was hacked through his MetaMask wallet, presumably in a phishing attack involving a fake Zoom meeting invitation sent through a stolen Telegram account of a friend.
Total Stolen Amount and THORSwap's Actions
The total amount stolen is approximately $1.35 million, including $1.03 million in Kyber Network tokens and $320,000 in THORSwap tokens. It was clarified that these assets were forwarded to an address known as 'Exploiter 6', and it is currently suspected that the stolen funds were exchanged for ETH.
Continuing Bounty Offers
THORSwap has continued to extend the bounty offer in hopes of recovering the stolen funds, highlighting the community's intention to resolve the issue outside the legal framework. Thorbjornsen noted that such events lead him to doubt even the most secure crypto systems.
The theft situation highlights vulnerabilities in the cryptocurrency sphere and the importance of asset protection. The community remains hopeful for a recovery of the stolen funds.
