Tokocrypto Receives PFAK License in Indonesia

  2. Expanding Market Presence
  3. Binance’s Global Push for Compliance

The Indonesian exchange Tokocrypto, owned by the Binance Group, recently gained a Physical Crypto Asset Trader (PFAK) license on its home turf. This is a big step in the compliance processes of Tokocrypto and Binance in Indonesia, aimed at adapting to the new cryptocurrency regulations.

Regulatory Approval Process

The process that Tokocrypto followed to acquire this license was quite competitive. Initially, in 2019, it entered the market as a Prospective Physical Crypto Asset Trader (CPFAK) due to the highly regulated nature of Indonesia’s market. The Indonesian Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) conducted a rigorous examination and granted the full license, making Tokocrypto one of the select few fully licensed to be a crypto asset trader in Indonesia. With the PFAK license acquisition, Tokocrypto becomes the third exchange, proving that the Indonesian crypto market is becoming more mature.

Expanding Market Presence

The licensing victory comes as Tokocrypto expands its operations. By 2024, the platform reached over 4.5 million users, and its monthly trading volume spiked by 138%. This increase in use indicates the growing acceptance of Tokocrypto and cryptocurrencies in Indonesia. This achievement greatly enhances investor confidence in the platform and becomes a testament to its dominance in the regional crypto market. Yudhono Rawis, CEO of Tokocrypto, said that this achievement is critical to achieving Tokocrypto’s future objectives. Equipped with the PFAK license, Tokocrypto is set to improve its market positioning, expand its client services roster, and remain an important player in Indonesia’s crypto sphere.

Yudhono Rawis, CEO of Tokocrypto, said: "This achievement is critical to achieving Tokocrypto’s objectives in the future."

Binance’s Global Push for Compliance

Binance has had issues with regulators across the world but has recently ramped up efforts to ensure that it abides by the rules of each country. This includes acquiring licenses in countries such as Bahrain and Kazakhstan and expanding its operations in Asia. Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, applauded Tokocrypto's achievement and emphasized the importance of compliance and the growth of the Web3 industry in Southeast Asia. Overall, Tokocrypto’s acquisition of the PFAK license aligns with Binance's continued initiative to enforce compliance with all existing operational markets. It also highlights the importance of partnership relationships between regulators and crypto platforms, which is essential for maintaining investor confidence in this emerging industry.

Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, said: "This is a big win for all of us in compliance and the growth of the Web3 industry."

The acquisition of the PFAK license marks a significant step for Tokocrypto and Binance in complying with Indonesia’s regulatory requirements. It strengthens their market position and boosts investor confidence, making them reliable and legally compliant platforms for trading crypto assets.
