Top 5 L2 Blockchains by Daily Active Users

Aug 21, 2024
  1. Base
  2. Arbitrum
  3. Immutable
  4. zkSync Era
  5. OP Mainnet

According to Token Terminal, the review highlights which L2 blockchains lead in daily active users. These blockchains enhance transaction speed and efficiency through advanced technologies like rollups, plasma chains, and sidechains.

Base

Base ranks first among L2 blockchains with 739,800 daily active users. It's an Ethereum Layer 2 chain offering a secure, low-cost way to build on-chain. Key features of Base include its Ethereum security, Coinbase integration, low fees, and open-source code. Recently, they launched Basenames, enabling users to create on-chain identities using the Ens Domanis protocol.

Arbitrum

Arbitrum comes second with 358,800 daily active users. This L2 technology is designed to scale Ethereum, allowing for smart contract deployment and Web3 apps with lower costs and faster transaction processing. Arbitrum's main strength lies in its Optimistic rollup protocol, inheriting Ethereum-level security. Offchain Labs, one of the main developers behind Arbitrum, recently shared plans for further technological advancements, including horizontal scaling, decentralized sequencing, and ZK proofs.

Immutable

Securely ranked third with 249,700 daily active users, Immutable is an L2 solution for NFTs and blockchain gaming. Known for swift scalability, its main attributes include robust scaling for large games, Ethereum-level security, carbon neutrality, and Zero-knowledge rollups. Recently, Immutable partnered with Fireblocks to offer licensed crypto custody services in the US.

zkSync Era

Ranking fourth with 83,700 daily active users, zkSync Era is a protocol that uses cryptographic proofs to offer scalable and low-cost Ethereum transactions. zkSync supports EVM-compatible smart contracts, instant transaction confirmations, and low fees. Key features include the zkSync Era protocol, SDKs in various programming languages for dApp development, and zkEVM for complete Ethereum compatibility.

OP Mainnet

Taking the fifth spot with 55,300 daily active users, OP Mainnet is designed to scale Ethereum by increasing transaction throughput and reducing costs. Also known as Optimism, it allows dApps to function faster and cheaper without compromising Ethereum's security. Optimism recently announced support for ERC-7683 for cross-chain interactions, expanding the capabilities of blockchain networks within the Ethereum ecosystem.

These L2 blockchains play a vital role in improving the performance and scalability of Ethereum, offering users fast and economical solutions. The technologies employed in these projects continue to evolve, providing ever more complex and efficient tools for developers and users alike.
