Trish Turner has stepped down from her role leading the IRS's crypto division after three months. Her departure marks yet another leadership change in this department.
Turner's Resignation from the IRS
Trish Turner announced her resignation on Friday via LinkedIn, concluding over two decades of service with the tax agency. She cited her role in developing the IRS's digital asset strategy during a time when cryptocurrencies transitioned from niche investments to mainstream financial tools.
Move to the Private Sector
Following her departure from the IRS, Trish Turner will join the cryptocurrency tax firm Crypto Tax Girl as tax director. "With all of the big crypto tax and compliance changes on the horizon, we are excited to have Trish on board to help advise our clients," noted the company's founder, Laura Walter.
Instability in IRS Crypto Division
Turner's brief tenure continues a pattern of leadership changes within the IRS's crypto unit. She replaced Sulolit 'Raj' Mukherjee and Seth Wilks, who left after approximately one year in leadership roles. This change comes amidst growing pressure on the agency to develop comprehensive frameworks for digital asset compliance.
Trish Turner's departure highlights the ongoing instability within the IRS's crypto division, which faces the challenge of developing new strategies for regulating digital assets.
