Donald Trump has once again ramped up his diplomatic activity aimed at resolving the conflict with Russia. However, his attempts to reach out to the Kremlin have so far gone unanswered.
Trump's Diplomatic Efforts
Last week, Donald Trump issued a warning to Vladimir Putin via his Truth Social account, stating, 'Interesting times ahead!!!'. Trump also said that 'it is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader’s country.' This statement was directed at Russia, but there was no response from Moscow.
Russia Ignores Calls for Negotiation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, standing next to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, noted that Moscow was doing everything possible to avoid a meeting with Ukraine, accusing Russia of dragging out the war. Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that a summit between Putin and Zelensky was not forthcoming, stating, 'The agenda is not ready at all.'
Expectations and Reactions from World Leaders
Finnish President Alexander Stubb, in his conversation with Trump, indicated that the latter's patience was wearing thin. He suggested that if the Zelensky-Putin meeting does not happen within the next week and a half, it could become a critical moment for Trump, who may have to consider imposing sanctions.
Donald Trump's diplomatic efforts towards conflict resolution remain fruitless, as Russia shows no willingness for constructive negotiations. Time will tell what further steps Trump will take amid rising pressure from the international community.
