The identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, remains one of the greatest mysteries in modern technology. Since the release of the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2008, debates around the true author have not ceased, with Nick Szabo and Len Sassaman currently topping the list of primary candidates.

Is it Nick Szabo?

Nick Szabo, a computer scientist and legal scholar, is considered one of the leading candidates to be Satoshi Nakamoto. In the late 1990s, he developed the concept of Bit Gold, an early form of decentralized digital currency that influenced Bitcoin's development. A stylometry expert consulted by author Dominic Frisby found Szabo's writing style to closely resemble Satoshi's. Although Szabo denies the claims, many arguments still support the theory.

Len Sassaman?

Len Sassaman was a cryptographer who actively participated in the Cypherpunk movement. Sassaman significantly contributed to cryptographic technology, developing encryption tools. His tragic death in 2011 coincided with Satoshi’s disappearance, leading some to speculate about his involvement. His tribute encoded in the Bitcoin blockchain further fuels this theory, despite counterarguments from some experts.

Polymarket Odds and the HBO Documentary

The debate over Satoshi's true identity gained momentum with betting odds on Polymarket, considering Len Sassaman and Nick Szabo the main candidates. An upcoming HBO documentary promises to reveal the true name of Bitcoin’s creator. Producer Cullen Hoback hints at personally confronting someone he believes is Satoshi, increasing anticipation around the mystery.

Though debates regarding Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity persist, none of the candidates have been definitively confirmed. The HBO documentary may shed some light, but the mystery remains unsolved.
