Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin denied accusations that he sells ETH for personal profit, explaining that all sales are intended to support various projects and charities.

Buterin addresses accusations

Vitalik Buterin stated that all ETH sales since 2018 have been supporting projects and charities. He cited biomedical research and development as an example.

I haven't sold and kept the proceeds since 2018. All sales have been to support various projects that I think are valuable, either within the Ethereum ecosystem or broader charity (e.g., biomedical R&D).Vitalik Buterin

Recent transactions

Recently, Buterin transferred 800 ETH (approx. $2.01 million) to a multisig wallet, which subsequently swapped 190 ETH for 477,000 USD Coin. This attracted the attention of the crypto community, and some assumed that Buterin was dumping his ETH.

Explaining the positions

Buterin clarified that the ETH sales were not for personal profit, but for covering expenses of donation recipients. He emphasized that 90% of his net worth is in ETH, proving his commitment to the digital asset.

If you see an article saying 'Vitalik sends XXX ETH to exchange,' it’s not actually me selling, it’s almost always me donating to some charity or nonprofit or other project, and the recipient selling because, well, they have to cover expenses.Vitalik Buterin

Buterin emphasizes that his actions are motivated by a desire to support developing projects and charities, not personal profit, which is evidenced by his numerous donations to various causes.
