  3. Escalation of Allegations

The hacker behind the attack on India's cryptocurrency exchange WazirX continues to launder stolen Ether (ETH). The latest movements include transferring 10,000 ETH (approximately $23 million) in the last 24 hours.

Independent Investigations

The clash between WazirX and Liminal escalated when the multiparty computation wallet provider Liminal blamed the hacked exchange for the $230 million breach. Forensic analysis showed no evidence that the attack originated from their web infrastructure.

Funds Movement

Data shared by Spot On Chain highlighted that the WazirX hacker moved 10,000 ETH to multiple addresses for further laundering. This includes 5,000 ETH sent to Tornado Cash and another 5,000 ETH to a new wallet. The total laundered amount exceeds 12,600 ETH ($30.13 million). The hacker's wallet still holds $49,100 ETH ($115 million).

Escalation of Allegations

After WazirX published the results of a Mandiant audit claiming no responsibility for the hack, both parties have been passing the blame to each other. Liminal hired audit firm Grant Thornton to conduct a deep review of their web apps following the July hack. Initial findings revealed discrepancies in the data shared by Liminal and WazirX, indicating the breach might have occurred in the exchange’s system or Liminal’s front end. However, further forensic investigation eliminated any evidence of vulnerabilities in Liminal’s transaction workflow. WazirX has yet to respond to Liminal’s latest claims, and the blame game continues.

The situation surrounding the laundering of stolen crypto funds and the conflict between WazirX and Liminal continues to unfold. As the parties exchange accusations, investors remain hopeful for the return of their funds.
