Billionaire twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have increased their financial support for politics, donating $21 million in Bitcoin to a committee backing Donald Trump.
Donation and PAC Goals
The $21 million donation, made in the form of 188 bitcoins, went to the Digital Freedom Fund PAC, formed in July. Tyler Winklevoss stated on social media about the committee's goals: "The mission of the @FreedomFundPAC is to help realize President Trump's vision of making America the crypto capital of the world."
Political Activity of the Winklevoss Brothers
The brothers are actively advocating for a 'Skinny Market Structure Bill' to avoid overlapping jurisdictions between the SEC and CFTC. They also propose a 'Bitcoin & Crypto Bill of Rights' to ensure Americans' right to own and transact digital assets without government interference. Last year, they donated $2 million in Bitcoin directly to Trump's campaign and about $3.5 million to the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc.
Position Against Central Bank Digital Currency
The Winklevoss twins oppose a potential U.S. central bank digital currency, arguing it could give unelected officials excessive power over financial activity. They have also criticized efforts to restrict banking services based on political or business affiliations, drawing comparisons to past controversies such as Operation Choke Point.
The Winklevoss brothers' financial support strengthens Trump's political campaign and reflects the growing influence of crypto investors in the U.S. political landscape.
