A new blockchain named “World Chain” is set to be introduced by Worldcoin, with an expected launch in the summer. The upcoming platform is a Layer 2 extension of Ethereum and will be fully integrated with WLD and World ID, as stated by the Worldcoin team.

With the news of the upcoming World Chain launch, the price of WLD experienced a slight increase. Despite a 3% surge in the last 24 hours, reaching $4.90 at the current time, the token still remains largely in the negative zone after slipping from its peak of $6.57 on April 12.

World Chain, a brainchild of the Worldcoin project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is anticipated to operate as an ecosystem of decentralized financial and identity applications. While initially it will link with the Worldcoin protocol and World ID’s Proof of Personhood, the ultimate objective is to transition it into a community-led initiative.

Designed for scalability within the Superchain ecosystem, World Chain aims to prioritize verified humans over bots for blockspace access. By incentivizing verified humans with gas allocations, the platform aims to eliminate bot traffic, specifically those deployed for airdrop farming activities causing congestion within networks.

Notably, ETH will serve as the native token for World Chain, but users will have the option to pay fees using Worldcoin’s WLD token as well. Worldcoin, introduced in July 2023, encouraged individuals to verify their identity by scanning their irises via an orb in exchange for WLD tokens. More than 10 million people have created a World ID and utilized the World App, while a staggering 5 million individuals have verified their World ID through the orb.

Despite its success, Worldcoin has encountered intensified regulatory scrutiny since its inception, with recent legal challenges emerging in Spain and Portugal.
