According to lawyer Bill Morgan, recently circulated information about the Ripple and SEC case was misleading. He provided clarification regarding the current status of the case and explained that Judge Analisa Torres is no longer involved.
Clearing Up the Confusion
Morgan emphasized that no decision from Judge Torres is pending. "Judge Torres’ role is over," he wrote, addressing the widespread misconception. According to Morgan, the only action pending is for the SEC commissioners to vote on dismissing their appeal.
What August 15 Really Means
Morgan clarified that August 15 is not a deadline for dismissing the appeals, as suggested by Zuccàra’s post. Rather, it’s the date by which both parties are expected to submit a joint status report to the appeals court. Though dismissals may happen before this date, extensions could also be requested.
The Path to Final Resolution
Ripple has paid its $125 million fine and expressed intent to end its appeal. All eyes are now on the SEC’s internal vote, after which the necessary paperwork can be filed to formally conclude the case.
Morgan’s clarification helps refocus public understanding of the current status. While both appeals remain legally active, the resolution appears to be nearing.
