XRP: Celebrating 12 Years in the Cryptocurrency World

XRP, one of the significant cryptocurrencies, marked its 12th anniversary on June 2. On this date in 2012, Arthur Britto, a co-founder of Ripple Labs, introduced the code that brought 100 billion XRP tokens into existence.

The early history of the XRP Ledger is shrouded in mystery due to a critical bug, leading to a loss of the initial days' data. Consequently, the XRP Ledger's traceability begins from December 2012 rather than its true inception. In December 2019, Ripple's CTO mentioned the challenges faced during the early days, including resetting the Ledger sequence multiple times and losing transaction history due to format changes.

David Schwartz, the Ripple CTO, collaborated with co-founders Arthur Britto and Jed McCaleb from late 2011, with Schwartz's initial commit dating back to November 2011.

Significant Upgrade

Recently, the XRP Ledger underwent a significant enhancement with the introduction of the automated market maker (AMM) feature. Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, expressed his enthusiasm for this new development, highlighting the growing number of XRP locked and active liquidity pools exceeding 500.

The XRP Ledger operator, Vet, shared optimism for the future, citing the achievement of 500 pairs and embracing a quarter of Uniswap V3's pairs. The integration of AMM/DEX reflects the evolving landscape of decentralized finance (DeFi) within the XRP ecosystem.
