An XRPL validator proposed a theoretical increase in the total number of XRP from 100 billion to 200 billion tokens, sparking active debates within the community.

Validator's Proposal

To highlight the decentralized nature of the XRP network, an XRPL validator named Vet initiated community discussions by proposing a theoretical increase in the total number of XRP from 100 billion to 200 billion tokens. This proposal evoked emotional reactions and debates among network participants.

Community Reaction and Blockchain Principle

The controversial proposal was ultimately rejected by the XRPL Foundation (XRPLF) maintainers. Nonetheless, Vet released a modified version of the XRPL software, allowing node operators to run a forked version of the network. This move underscored blockchain's core principle: the ability to fork in the face of disagreement, highlighting that XRP’s future is determined by the collective decisions of validators, exchanges, and node operators.

Confirmation of Network Decentralization

Ripple CTO David Schwartz confirmed that the decentralized nature of XRPL allows for multiple network versions. He also noted that the proposal was purely theoretical and intended to demonstrate the network’s decentralization capabilities.

This case underscored the importance of decentralized governance in blockchain networks and demonstrated that the development vectors of such networks are dependent on community participants.
