Yassamin Ansari, a crypto-supporting candidate and Democrat, won a recount in the congressional election, surpassing her opponent Raquel Terán by 39 votes.

According to the Associated Press, after primary results were verified beginning on July 30, election authorities discovered Ansari was ahead by less than 0.5% of the total votes cast, necessitating a recount under state law. According to the recount, Ansari received 19,087 votes, while Terán received 19,048. Ansari announced her victory in an Aug. 20 post, while Terán praised her opponent on her election.

Campaign Support from Crypto PAC

Ansari's campaign was supported by the Protect Progress super PAC, affiliated with Fairshake and Defend American Jobs, which spent over $1.3 million on media support. Throughout the 2024 election season, the super PAC has invested millions in advertising and media support for candidates.

Cryptocurrencies and Politics in the Upcoming 2024 Election

The 2024 presidential election is one of the first in the US where major party candidates are taking a stance on cryptocurrencies. Republican candidate Donald Trump has made several supportive statements on NFTs, Bitcoin mining, and asset custody.

The recount confirmed Yassamin Ansari's victory in the congressional election. She will face Republican Jeff Zink in the November election in Arizona's 3rd district.
