Hacker Uranium Finance transferred 2.5 million BUSD to the Ethereum network

Jan 22, 2024

A wallet associated with the incident in the Uranium Finance protocol has moved 2.5 million BUSD stablecoins BUSD from the BNB network to the Ethereum network. This operation was reported by analysts from the PeckShield Alert platform.

According to experts, the wallet owner, using the Li.Fi protocol, carried out a transfer that included asset conversion totaling 812 ETH, as well as approximately $505,000 in USDT and USDC stablecoins.

It's worth noting that in March 2023, the suspected hacker sent 2250 ETH from this wallet to a cryptocurrency mixer called Tornado Cash. After 647 days of inactivity, several transactions ranging from 1 to 100 ETH were made, as reported by PeckShield Alert.

The Uranium Finance protocol was hacked in April 2021, resulting in a loss of approximately $50 million. The hacker exploited a vulnerability that arose during the transfer of assets to a new fork of the project.

It's possible that Uranium Finance was never able to recover after the hack. The last message on X (formerly Twitter) was published on April 30, 2021, in which the team urged users to withdraw their assets from liquidity pools.

In November 2023, the decentralized platform KyberSwap faced a loss of over $40 million due to a hacker attack. The suspected hacker threatened to disrupt negotiations for the return of the funds and subsequently expressed a demand for full control over the project.
