Head of Medici: Issues with Bitcoin's Liquidity

Dec 23, 2023

The cryptocurrency market this year is showing growth, with many analysts forecasting further strengthening of Bitcoin's position in the coming months. Edward Boyle, CEO of Medici, recently expressed concern about the low liquidity of Bitcoin on some major exchanges, which could lead to problems, especially after the approval of spot BTC-ETFs.

Boyle refers to Kaiko data, noting that last year's collapse of the FTX exchange significantly impacted market liquidity. As a result, many investors moved their assets from centralized platforms to cold storage. He also emphasizes that the emergence of specialized funds will mean that companies cannot purchase BTC without significantly affecting its price.

On the other hand, spot ETFs could improve the liquidity of the crypto market by attracting institutional investors. However, experts' opinions on the prospects of these funds are divided.

Cryptotrader John Najarian believes that the approval of ETFs could lead to a sharp 20% increase in Bitcoin's value, followed by a global correction, bringing the price down to around $37,000. He is confident in the approval of spot funds early next year and suggests a possible increase in Bitcoin's volatility. Currently, Bitcoin is maintaining positions above $43,000.
