Iran is facing a significant challenge with illegal cryptocurrency mining, as a staggering 95% of its mining operations are unregulated. According to the experts cited in the publication, the situation is becoming critical and has raised concerns about the impact on the country's electricity supply and infrastructure.

Iran Becomes Fourth-Largest Crypto Mining Hub

According to Akbar Hasan Beklou, CEO of the Tehran Province Electricity Distribution Company, Iran has emerged as the fourth-largest crypto mining hub globally. This surge is primarily attributed to the country's heavily subsidized electricity prices, which have attracted a multitude of illegal miners seeking to exploit the system.

Impact on National Grid

These unauthorized mining operations are reportedly consuming over 1,400 megawatts of power continuously, creating substantial strain on the national grid. The situation poses a serious risk to the stability of electricity supplies across the nation. Beklou also noted that many of these illicit miners are disguising their operations as industrial facilities to benefit from lower energy costs.

In contrast to the challenges faced by Iran's unregulated cryptocurrency mining, Lighter is revolutionizing decentralized trading with its innovative features. Discover more about this transformative platform in our article here.
