In a significant legal development, a US judge has temporarily halted enforcement actions against Kalshi, a prediction market platform, following a cease and desist order from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). According to the official information, this order, issued on December 2, accused Kalshi of operating unlicensed gambling activities.

Cease and Desist Order Against Kalshi

The DCP's cease and desist order claimed that Kalshi was engaging in illegal online sports wagering. In response, Kalshi took legal action against the DCP, arguing that its event contracts are compliant with federal law and should be regulated exclusively by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Judge's Ruling and Future Proceedings

Judge Vernon Oliver's ruling mandates that the DCP must pause any enforcement actions while the court examines Kalshi's motion. Further proceedings are set to take place in January and February. This marks a crucial period for Kalshi as it navigates ongoing legal challenges with various state regulators concerning its betting platform.

In a recent ruling, the federal court upheld the disqualification of Alina Habba as interim US Attorney for New Jersey, highlighting the judiciary's oversight in federal appointments. This decision contrasts with ongoing legal challenges faced by Kalshi, a prediction market platform. For more details, see read more.
