Richard Garfield, the mind behind "Magic: The Gathering," has collaborated in the creation of a new blockchain-based game set to debut on the Epic Game Store.
Garfield's iconic Dungeons & Dragons-inspired card game achieved monumental success, leading to a fervent community of enthusiasts who exchanged, purchased, and sold the tangible cards for years. Now, Garfield has his sights set on the digital realm, hoping his latest venture, "Brawlers," will resonate with players.
"Brawlers," a PvP game, is a collaboration between Garfield and the emerging web3 game company Tyranno Studios, specializing in producing games for the WAX blockchain.
"Brawlers mirrors the essence of conventional card games where players can acquire card packs and engage in gameplay with peers. Moreover, players maintain complete possession and the autonomy to seamlessly trade or swap their assets," expressed Garfield. He further emphasized the potential of this model, noting the opportunities it presents for developers to curate thriving web3 game economies, empowering every player and sidestepping the drawbacks of intrusive microtransactions.
Numerous web2 gaming veterans have moved to web3, bringing forth games where players truly own and can trade in-game assets. However, mainstream adoption remains a challenge. "Brawlers," now on the Epic Game Store with its 230 million users, may change that narrative.
Epic Game Store has also spotlighted other web3 titles, such as "Blankos Block Party" by Mythical Games and the action-packed "MetalCore." Notably, "Brawlers" boasts a select range of NFTs and supports cross-platform interactions through NFT bridges connecting to Polygon, Ethereum, and Binance's BNB Chain.
