MTN Rwanda has reached a remarkable milestone by exceeding 8 million mobile subscribers in the first nine months of 2025. This achievement highlights the company's commitment to driving digital transformation across the nation, and the material points to an encouraging trend: increased connectivity is fostering economic growth and innovation in the region.

Growth in Mobile Subscriber Base

The mobile subscriber base of MTN Rwanda grew by 6.9%, reaching 8.1 million users. In parallel, the number of active data subscribers saw a significant increase of 7.5%, totaling 2.5 million. This growth reflects the rising demand for mobile connectivity and digital services in the region.

Financial Performance and Data Revenue Surge

In terms of financial performance, data revenue surged by 79%, amounting to Rwf 358 billion. This impressive growth was fueled by a staggering 437% increase in 4G users, which now stands at 1.5 million, and a remarkable 1203% rise in 4G traffic, reaching 36 petabytes. These figures indicate a strong shift towards high-speed internet usage among Rwandans.

Initiatives to Enhance Smartphone Adoption

To further enhance smartphone adoption, MTN Rwanda has introduced initiatives such as:

  • Tunga Taci na MTN
  • a device financing program launched in August 2025

This program aims to make smartphone ownership more affordable and accessible, thereby supporting the company's goal of expanding digital inclusion in Rwanda.

In a contrasting development, Nigerian telecom giant Globacom has reported a significant network outage affecting several states in Northern Nigeria. For more details, see the full report here.
