In a significant move to enhance the passport application experience, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a new feature called 'Produced'. This addition aims to streamline the process by notifying applicants when their passports are ready for collection, addressing the backlog of uncollected passports that has caused frustration among citizens. According to the assessment of specialists presented in the publication, this initiative is expected to significantly improve customer satisfaction and efficiency in the passport issuance process.
NIS Enhances Passport Application Tracking System
The announcement was made on the NIS's official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting the agency's commitment to improving the international passport application tracking system for Nigerians. Previously, applicants could monitor their application status through a contactless system that provided updates at various stages, including when the application was sent, received, and ready for enrollment.
Introduction of the 'Produced' Feature
With the introduction of the 'Produced' feature, applicants will now receive timely notifications indicating whether their passports are ready for physical collection or if they are still pending courier delivery. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Nigerian government to facilitate a more efficient passport booking process.
Launch of Online Application Portal
Additionally, the NIS is set to launch Nigeria's first online application portal for international passports on January 8, 2024. This will further modernize the application process and make it more accessible for citizens.
In a recent development, the US State Department announced new visa suspensions affecting 39 countries, which contrasts with Nigeria's efforts to enhance its passport application process. For more details, see visa suspensions.
