In a significant crackdown on illegal cryptocurrency mining, Russian law enforcement has apprehended seven employees of Rosseti Moscow Region. This operation highlights the ongoing battle against unregulated crypto activities in the country, particularly in the Moscow region, as emphasized in the official statement.

Detained Individuals and Their Accusations

The detained individuals, who range from field technicians to senior engineers, are accused of facilitating underground mining operations. Investigators allege that they provided paid services to owners of unregistered cryptocurrency mining farms, allowing these operations to evade detection for an extended period.

Illegal Crypto Data Centers in Chekhov

According to the Interior Ministry, two illegal cryptocurrency data centers have been functioning in the town of Chekhov since 2024, heavily relying on high electricity consumption to power their mining equipment. The ongoing investigation has revealed that the preliminary damage caused by these illicit activities is estimated at around 10 million rubles. This underscores the financial impact of such operations on the local economy.

In a recent development, the Hyderabad Police arrested a former Coinbase customer service agent, highlighting ongoing challenges in cryptocurrency security. This incident contrasts with the recent crackdown on illegal mining operations in Russia. For more details, see read more.
