Sky Mavis, known for its contribution to the web3 gaming space, recently announced the termination of its partnership with game developers ACT Games and Bowled.io. This decision highlights the company's strategic direction towards collaborating with developers who share its vision for the web3 ecosystem.
Over the past year, Sky Mavis has bolstered confidence in its Ronin blockchain platform, dubbed "the king of gaming chains." Unlike a strategy of mass game onboarding, Ronin adheres to a "quality over quantity" principle, carefully selecting a limited number of games for integration into its ecosystem.
The termination of the partnership with ACT Games and Bowled.io is part of this strategy. ACT Games' TCG Zoids Wild Arena will no longer operate on Ronin, and its NFTs will be removed from the network, with holders receiving compensation in RON tokens. This decision was made due to strategic changes within ACT's leadership that no longer align with Ronin's vision.
Similarly, the collaboration with Bowled.io is also ending, with the developer opting to move its operations to BNB instead of Ronin. This decision reflects the company's focus on partnering with developers who are a natural fit for the Ronin community, despite Sky Mavis leading Bowled.io's funding round in February 2024.
Sky Mavis remains a dominant player in the web3 gaming space with a large player base, primarily thanks to Pixels. Excitement continues around its third-party games like Apeiron, Kaidro, and Wild Forest. Additionally, the company's own Axie games continue to experience a revival, further solidifying its position in the market.
Alexander Larsen, co-founder and COO of Sky Mavis, emphasized the reason for the termination, stating that the company's business team is dedicated to bringing in developers who fully align with their web3 strategy.
