SPAR Switzerland has taken a groundbreaking step by enabling Bitcoin payments at checkout, paving the way for cryptocurrency adoption in everyday grocery shopping. According to analysts cited in the report, the outlook is promising as this initiative is currently operational in over 100 stores, with ambitions to expand to 300 locations nationwide.
Convenient Payment Options with DFXswiss OpenCryptoQR
Customers can conveniently pay by scanning a DFXswiss OpenCryptoQR code using a compatible wallet, choosing from a variety of cryptocurrencies, and confirming the transaction on their mobile devices. The payment system supports 100 different cryptocurrencies and instantly converts them into Swiss francs, ensuring that retailers receive fiat currency rather than crypto.
Benefits of the New Payment System
This innovative approach is anticipated to reduce transaction fees by about two-thirds compared to conventional card processing methods, benefiting both retailers and customers by making transactions more affordable and efficient. Additionally, the SPAR app has incorporated crypto payment options, broadening access for users.
Successful Pilot Tests in Zug
The launch follows successful pilot tests of Bitcoin payments conducted in Zug earlier this year, which leveraged the Lightning Network to facilitate quick and cost-effective transactions.
In a related development, Altify has announced a partnership with OpenPayd to enhance its investment platform, facilitating easier fiat transactions for users. This collaboration aims to streamline financial operations, further supporting the growing trend of digital payments in various sectors. For more details, see read more.
