Sports Illustrated unveils NFT ticketing platform powered by Polygon

May 3, 2023

Sports Illustrated introduces a fresh offering named "Box Office," enabling event organizers to generate exclusive non-fungible token (NFT) tickets that come with pre-event and post-event benefits for attendees.

Sports Illustrated subsidiary SI Tickets unveiled its "Box Office" platform on May 2, providing event organizers with a self-service solution for event management and primary ticketing. Powered by the Polygon blockchain and developed in collaboration with ConsenSys, Box Office empowers owners, organizers, and hosts to effortlessly create, manage, and promote paid or free ticketed live sporting events on a scalable platform.

As part of this innovative platform, SI Tickets and ConsenSys have joined forces to create a groundbreaking feature called the "Super Ticket." This unique offering enables hosts to maintain a continuous connection with attendees by offering highlights, collectibles, exclusive offers, and loyalty benefits through NFT technology. SI Tickets CEO David Lane expressed his belief that blockchain represents the future of ticketing, emphasizing its transformative potential in the industry.

From the moment we launched our global event marketplace, which now boasts 50 million tickets to over 250,000 sports, concerts and shows, we have been preparing to enter and disrupt the primary ticket market.

With the Super Ticket feature, event attendees can utilize their NFTs to access fast-track entry passes, redeem drink coupons, and enjoy music downloads ahead of the event. Additionally, post-event, they can access exclusive video content and receive rewards. The newly launched website assures event organizers that guests will retain their event tickets in their digital wallets indefinitely.

Since its launch in June 2021, SI Tickets has experienced significant growth, amassing a marketplace inventory valued at over $2.5 billion. The platform distinguishes itself by offering zero transaction fees on all purchases and providing a full refund policy in the event of event cancellation, regardless of the reason.

Box Office, the flagship service of SI Tickets, implements a pricing structure of $1.40 per ticket alongside a 3% commission fee. Event organizers will also be responsible for a 3% merchant pass-through fee, ensuring a seamless ticketing experience for customers while offering competitive rates for organizers.
