Steve McQueen, often referred to as the "king of cool" and known for his enduring love for motorcycles, is making his debut in the Web3 domain. His unyielding spirit is being commemorated through a unique NFT collection set to be unveiled on July 14. This initiative is a joint effort involving the McQueen Estate, Web3 talent agency Verified Labs, modern artist Michael Kalish, Triumph Motorcycles, and Web3 animation studio Immersive Entertainment Laboratories (IEL).

The collection includes 1,000 generative art pieces, each with unique rarity traits, designed to honor the legendary actor. The ThetaDrop platform, a part of the Theta network, will serve as the marketplace for these immersive digital creations. The inspiration for this project came from an original portrait of McQueen that artist Michael Kalish created in 2022, a process that involved the participation of Chase, McQueen’s grandson.

The exclusive "King of Cool Racing Team" collection offers more than just a digital asset. Each NFT collector will receive a digital motorcycle shipping crate, which serves as a gateway to their unique, virtual Triumph Bonneville T100 Motorcycle. As owners open the crate, they also secure their King of Cool Racing Team membership, which provides access to future token-gated content, events, and games. In addition to this virtual motorcycle, each collectible includes a detailed 3D Steve McQueen portrait that can be explored in greater detail using a virtual reality headset.

McQueen, celebrated for his roles in films like "The Cincinnati Kid" and "The Towering Inferno," was also a passionate motorcycle enthusiast. He was a formidable competitor in off-road races such as the Baja 1000 and the Elsinore Grand Prix. He also represented the United States in the 1964 International Six Days Trial (ISDT), further showcasing his competitive spirit and expertise in the field.

Artist Michael Kalish, a key player in this project, stated that his artwork is heavily influenced by Americana, a concept that McQueen significantly impacted throughout his career. He said, "Having the opportunity to partner with the Steve McQueen family has been a perfect intersection of my passions as an artist and who Steve McQueen was to all of us on the big screen. There is so much overlap in our love of cars, motorcycles, family, American Iconic objects and moments."

Steve McQueen's entry into the blockchain follows other late celebrities who have been honored in a similar way. Last April, the estate of renowned martial artist Bruce Lee teamed up with Shibuya to introduce Bruce Lee NFTs. This move is a prime example of how iconic figures are being revived on the blockchain through NFTs, highlighting the potential of the Web3 era.
