American authorities have filed claims against the cryptocurrency exchange FTX ranging from 3 to 5 billion dollars. According to the priorities of payments, governmental bodies are queued for compensation after the exchange's clients and Alameda Research. Out of the remaining amount after paying the clients and covering administrative expenses, a quarter will be allocated to settle the debt with the U.S. tax authorities.
According to court documents, the exact amount of claims against FTX is yet to be determined. Earlier, the U.S. Tax Administration filed a lawsuit against FTX demanding repayment of a $44 billion debt, which was later reduced to $24 billion. The exchange expressed the opinion that such demands would practically deprive creditors of any compensation opportunities.
FTX presented a payment plan in December 2023 and opened a website for claims submission in early March 2024. Deposits in crypto-assets will be paid out in fiat currency at the exchange rate at the time of bankruptcy announcement.
