Trader Ordinals returned $13,000 mistakenly paid by the buyer

Mar 2, 2024

The NFT buyer in the Ordinals protocol received back $13,000, which were mistakenly paid for the Bitcoin "caption." The story, shared by a trader on the X social network, tells of a transaction accidentally made for ten times the intended value of the asset – 0.21 BTC instead of 0.021 BTC. These funds were the last in the buyer's wallet.

The seller, Dan Anderson, proposed a solution by making a reverse offer for 0.21 BTC so the buyer could retrieve their funds. Anderson emphasized that taking advantage of the buyer's mistake would be unfair. The buyer confirmed the transaction and received their money back, minus a 2% fee.

This incident garnered many positive responses within the community, including a comment from prominent Ordinals supporter Udi Wertheimer, who praised Anderson as a "stand-up guy." The story underscores not only the risks associated with blockchain transactions, where mistakes can be costly, but also the importance of honesty and mutual assistance within the crypto community.

In the context of the blockchain industry, where refunds for mistakenly sent funds are often impossible due to the irreversibility of transactions, this case stands out as an example of positive conflict resolution and user support.
