Nekoverse is a Web3 gaming ecosystem that began as an MMORPG on Solana and later expanded with a separate project, City of Greed, on Beam. City of Greed became one of the team's most notable products: a roguelike game combining deck-building elements, resource management, and automated placement of objects on a game board. Beam operates as an EVM-compatible gaming network within the Avalanche ecosystem, so the modern blockchain infrastructure of City of Greed can be viewed in the context of Avalanche, although the original Nekoverse was built on Solana. The game's economy is connected to Land NFTs, the ASG token, and BEAM rewards, while the project's evolution illustrates a shift from an ambitious MMORPG concept toward more compact Web3 games built around short, repeatable sessions.

1. What Is Nekoverse and How the Blockchain Game Evolved

Nekoverse was originally developed as a Play-to-Earn MMORPG on the Solana blockchain. Its game world revolved around creatures called Neko, represented as NFTs. Players were offered PvE and PvP battles, world exploration, resource gathering, item crafting, and character progression. The economy was designed to be shaped primarily by the activities of the players themselves.

The project's first NFT collections appeared in 2021–2022. Neko NFTs served as playable characters and featured different visual attributes. Ownership of these assets was also associated with access to specific game features, breeding mechanics, and future in-game items. The early roadmap included Elemental Realms, land, guilds, DAO mechanics, and a proprietary tokenized economy.

During 2022–2023, the team tested the Nekoverse: Elemental War combat system. The testnet introduced new game modes, equipment, crafting, skill progression, and a simulation of a player-driven economy. Users could connect compatible wallets, while the developers tested economic mechanics before a potential transition to the main network.

The strategy later changed. Instead of focusing exclusively on a large-scale MMORPG, the team began developing City of Greed, a standalone game with a more compact gameplay loop. The project moved toward Beam infrastructure, while the team itself later adopted the Accel3 Gaming identity and began working with multiple Web3 games and blockchain networks.

2. City of Greed: Gameplay, Land NFTs and Game Progression

Nekoverse: City of Greed belongs to the roguelike deck-building category, although instead of using a conventional deck of cards, it relies on a system of land, resources, and items. The player's main objective is to create combinations capable of generating enough in-game value to meet the requirements of each stage. Every session represents a separate attempt, so an unsuccessful run requires the player to reconsider and adjust their strategy.

Land is the central component of the gameplay. The game board consists of 20 plots arranged in a 5×4 grid. Resources obtained during a run are distributed across these cells, while their placement and interactions influence the final result. Some elements receive additional effects from neighboring objects, requiring players to identify useful combinations and gradually optimize the economy of their land.

The game also includes a Training Mode that allows users to learn the mechanics without fully participating in the Web3 economy. A Land NFT was used to access earning-related functionality. City of Greed therefore separates its basic gameplay experience from blockchain features that require ownership of a digital asset.

3. ASG, BEAM and the Nekoverse City of Greed Economy

The City of Greed economy is primarily connected to Anima Spirit Gem, or ASG. This asset should be distinguished from ASF, which was used in the early Nekoverse community as an internal Discord currency. ASG received its own blockchain functionality and became one of the main components of the City of Greed economy.

ASG is used for operations related to Land NFTs and specific game upgrades. The team also experimented with a model in which part of the ASG spent by users is removed from circulation. This mechanism was intended to reduce the economy's dependence on the continuous issuance of new tokens as rewards.

Key Features of the Economy and Gameplay:

During selected campaigns, users could receive BEAM for their activity in City of Greed. For example, reward distribution could depend on the number of points earned in the game. A Land NFT provided access to the corresponding Play-to-Earn functionality, while the land collection itself was deployed directly on the Beam network.

The team also described further changes to the economy that involved reducing or eliminating ASG emissions as gameplay rewards. One proposed model allowed ASG to retain its payment and access functions while rewards could be financed through other sources. Such mechanisms should be viewed as experimental GameFi tokenomics: their sustainability depends on the number of users, trading activity, player spending, and the market value of the crypto assets involved.

4. Beam, Avalanche and the Game's Web3 Infrastructure

The history of Nekoverse spans several blockchain environments. The original MMORPG was developed on Solana, where the first Neko NFTs were issued and the game economy was tested. City of Greed later expanded the project's technological model and became one of the games within the Beam ecosystem.

Beam was created by Merit Circle as specialized blockchain infrastructure for gaming and initially operated using Avalanche technology. The network is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, enabling developers to use Solidity, EVM wallets, and established smart contract infrastructure. City of Greed's connection to Avalanche therefore comes through the Beam gaming network rather than through the original Solana-based version of Nekoverse.

By early 2024, City of Greed was already generating on-chain activity on Beam. A Merit Circle representative identified the game among the projects whose partial deployment contributed to transaction activity on the network. The Beam ecosystem also introduced a separate Nekoverse: City of Greed Land collection designed to provide access to land-related gameplay functionality.

This architecture makes it possible to move financial operations and NFTs onto the blockchain without turning every gameplay action into a separate transaction. Resource combination calculations, visual elements, and the core logic of a session can operate like a conventional game application, while the blockchain is used where ownership of digital assets, token transfers, and interaction with smart contracts are required.

5. Nekoverse Development and the Future of the Gaming Ecosystem

The evolution of Nekoverse demonstrates a significant change in its approach to Web3 gaming. The original concept envisioned a large MMORPG world with Neko characters, PvP, PvE, professions, resources, guilds, and DAO functionality. Building such a system requires a substantial user base and significant development resources, which led the team to gradually experiment with more specialized game formats.

City of Greed became an example of this transition. Instead of an open MMORPG world, the project offers a limited game board, short sessions, and a set of interconnected resources. Randomized object distribution is combined with strategic decision-making: players cannot fully control the outcome of every move, but they can select elements, identify synergies, and adapt the development of their land.

The blockchain model also changed. Early Nekoverse materials were closely associated with Solana, while City of Greed introduced infrastructure connected to Ethereum and Beam. The team itself also evolved into Accel3 Gaming, reflecting a transition from a single MMORPG toward a broader Web3 game studio and publishing model.

As of 2026, Nekoverse should therefore be viewed in the context of this evolution rather than simply as an “idle game on Avalanche.” The original project was a Solana MMORPG, while City of Greed represents a roguelike deck-building direction that uses Beam and related Web3 mechanics. Land NFTs, ASG, and BEAM form the blockchain layer of the game, while the core gameplay value is built around resource management and repeatable strategic sessions. The ecosystem's future will depend on developer activity, digital asset liquidity, continued support for Beam infrastructure, and the ability of its gameplay model to attract users independently of financial incentives.
