What is NNS(NEO Name Service)?

NNS(NEO Name Service) — the NEO naming service, a distributed, open and extensible naming system, based on the NEO blockchain. The main purpose of NNS - to replace the wrong string, such as the wallet address and smart contract hash, which are difficult for people to remember with words and phrases.

Description of the NNS(NEO Name Service)

NNS can replace long, irregular lines that are difficult for the human brain to remember with words and phrases. You can transfer the token to the NNS domain name instead of the blockchain address. NNS is extensible. Domain names can be mapped to any identifier or blockchain resource such as contract hash, content hash, public key, and more.

NNS has four components:

1 Top-level domain name contract. This is the script that manages the root domain name.)
2 Owner (the owner can be a personal account address or a smart contract).
3 A registrar is simply a smart contract that issues subdomains of that domain to users.
4 Resolver (responsible for resolving a domain name or its subdomains).

The NNS system will issue an embedded token, called NNC (NEO Name Credit). NNC can be used as a collateral asset in an auction. The token can help to pay rent for a domain name. NNC is simply locked out of the auction, causing no other loss other than loss of NNC's liquidity. During the bidding process, the system will charge a fee to prevent malicious bidding and will also generate rental income. These proceeds will ultimately be returned to the NNC holders in proportion to their participation in the NNC.

Usability of Neo Name Service

One of the main disadvantages of long blockchain addresses - they can sometimes be insecure. The long public blockchain address is not something that anyone can remember at first glance, so hackers can easily intercept the transfer of these addresses from one side to the other without the knowledge of the recipient.

The short and simple address, provided by NNS, solves this security problem because anyone can easily see if the address has been tampered with.NNS(NEO Name Service)

Another amazing use case for NNS - it enables fast transactions. You can easily enter your simple public NNS address (like beautiful.neo) to initiate a transaction instead of going from one place to another.
