NFT innovation aids in recovering stolen cryptocurrencies

Oct 17, 2023

Mintable has introduced a groundbreaking NFT that's aiding investigators in tracing stolen cryptocurrencies worth millions. Intelligent Sanctuary, advised by former Met Chief Lord Hogan-Howe, secured permission from a Singapore court to issue a global freezing order using NFT technology in a legal battle.

Millions of stolen cryptocurrencies are being recovered thanks in large part to Mintable. The NFT includes a global freezing order issued by the Singapore High Court and was created in collaboration with London-based financial investigative firm Intelligent Sanctuary (iSanctuary).

An international financial crime involving the theft of a cryptocurrency key and the fraudulent transfer of millions of cryptocurrency coins into personal wallets is being actively investigated by Intelligent Sanctuary, under the direction of Lord Hogan-Howe. When transfers or purchases are attempted, the NFT with the freezing order aims to publicly identify stolen cryptocurrency.

Using Soulbound token technology, Zach Burks, the creator of Mintable and Mintology, developed an NFT that permanently affixes the freezing order to target wallets, ensuring immutability. The Singapore High Court, which recognizes cryptocurrencies as a form of property, has given this innovation its seal of approval.

Through their joint efforts, iSanctuary and Mintable have developed a ground-breaking strategy to combat online fraud. In order to address crimes related to blockchain technology, Jonathan Benton, a former head of the UK's International Anti-Corruption and Criminal Finance Unit at the Metropolitan Police Service, emphasized the need for digital-first solutions.
