OpenAI empowers ChatGPT users with custom GPTs

Nov 6, 2023

According to OpenAI, the introduction of "GPTs" in ChatGPT aims to simplify user interactions. Users can now design custom generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs) for their ChatGPT experience, eliminating the need for complex commands and manual text input.

OpenAI observed that many users saved text files to structure ChatGPT's responses to prompts. These power users previously had to copy and paste text inputs into ChatGPT each time they used the system. To streamline this process, GPTs were introduced to automate these actions.

GPTs are now available to subscribers of "ChatGPT Plus" and Enterprise tiers. OpenAI plans to open a GPT store, allowing developers to create and sell their GPTs. User privacy and safety will be prioritized, with verified builders having the ability to upload GPTs.

Users can share their GPTs publicly, and businesses can designate GPTs for internal use, limiting access to authorized personnel or specific departments. Major companies like Square, Amgen, and Bain are already using GPTs to enhance marketing, customer service, and onboarding processes.

ChatGPT, with over 180 million users, faces competition from AI chat applications like Claude 2 and Bard. Elon Musk has also introduced his AI chatbot called "Grok."
