A rare NFT from the Bored Ape Yacht Club series was sold for 275 ETH

Feb 10, 2024

The rare non-fungible token (NFT) №1726 from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection was sold for 275 ETH, which at the time of the transaction amounted to approximately $688,000 USD. This NFT belonged to a well-known figure in the NFT community under the pseudonym franklinisbored, who was previously one of the largest holders of BAYC tokens. Franklinisbored announced the sale on their social media profile X, commenting on it as "the end of an era."

The address franklinisbored holds numerous NFTs from various collections, including derivatives from popular CryptoPunks. In February, a court ordered the artist Ryder Ripps and the founder of the NFT marketplace Not Larva Labs, Jeremy Kaena, to pay $8.9 million to the studio Yuga Labs for trademark infringement of BAYC, which concluded a legal battle that began in June 2022.

In August 2023, another NFT from the BAYC collection was sold for a record low price of 153 ETH (approximately $254,000), losing 80% of its value in 11 months. In July of the same year, a rare BAYC NFT №3953 was sold for 200 ETH (about $372,000 at the time of the transaction), also significantly below its peak prices.

Yuga Labs, the company behind BAYC, announced in October a restructuring and a reduction in the number of employees, citing the metaverse Otherside as a key focus of their activities, launched in the spring of 2022.
