A resident of Minsk lost over $20,000 in cryptocurrency investments

Jan 19, 2024

A 28-year-old man from Minsk became a victim of fraudsters, losing 65,000 Belarusian rubles (approximately $20,500) in an attempt to invest in cryptocurrencies. According to him, in January last year, he met a girl in a messenger who eventually suggested profitable ways to earn money on cryptocurrencies. Following her advice and links from "brokers," he registered on several platforms.

After investing and transferring cryptocurrencies to the wallets of these platforms, the man began to receive interest and, inspired by success, took a loan from a bank to increase his investments. However, a month later, he discovered that his wallets were empty, and the accounts of the girl and "brokers" were blocked.

Currently, the Minsk law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation to identify the fraudsters. A criminal case has been initiated under the article on fraud in a particularly large amount according to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

This case is not unique. Earlier, another resident of Minsk also faced the risk of losing a large sum of $40,000 during a cryptocurrency transaction. This incident highlights the growing problem of fraud in the field of cryptocurrencies and the need for vigilance when conducting financial transactions in this area.
