Akron Energy, a company specializing in infrastructure for Bitcoin mining, has successfully raised $110 million in investments to expand its data centers. The investment round was led by Bluesky Capital Management, with participation from Kestrel 0x1 and Nural Capital.

Founded in 2021 in Australia, Akron Energy started with a 5 MW facility. Since then, the company has significantly expanded its capacity to 130 MW and entered the US and European markets. CEO Josh Payne noted that their enterprises attract not only Bitcoin miners but also clients from the artificial intelligence and machine learning sectors, requiring high computational power.

About $80 million of the raised funds will be allocated to acquiring additional energy capacities of 200 MW for new data centers in Ohio, North Carolina, and Texas. This will complement an existing 100 MW facility in Ohio, acquired by the company in June.

Payne emphasized that the US is an attractive market for Akron Energy, due to high demand, political and regulatory stability, and the presence of some of the world's cheapest electricity sources. However, despite the US's leadership in Bitcoin hash rate, some miners are looking for cheaper energy resources abroad.

For example, in October, the American provider Sazmining launched a data center in Paraguay, powered by the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, offering significantly lower rates compared to the US. Also, in November, Marathon Digital Holdings announced the opening of a data center in Paraguay, planning to expand its capacity to 20 MW by 2024.

Akron Energy also plans to use about $30 million of the funding to develop a cloud service for artificial intelligence in Norway, noting a sharp increase in demand for generative AI and language model training applications. This direction is becoming increasingly popular among Bitcoin miners seeking to diversify their activities.
