The EVE Online developer, CCP Games, has shared the first details of its new blockchain project named Project Awakening, which is part of the EVE universe. This project marks a significant advancement for the developer with 21 years of experience and demonstrates its commitment to expanding player capabilities. Project Awakening is conceived as a unique survival experience where freedom of action, the consequences of choices, and dominance play a crucial role in a living, constantly evolving universe shaped by the efforts of its players.

The next phase of closed game testing, Phase III, is scheduled for May 21. It will offer players the opportunity to interact with programmable game systems and create their own features, similar to other fully online games that engage their communities in the development process.

CCP also announced that Project Awakening would be built on the MUD platform from Lattice, designed for games on Ethereum and EVM blockchains, and will use its own cross-platform Carbon Development platform for the interface. The company emphasizes its commitment to decentralization by making the project open source.

CCP Games CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, spoke about the long-term collaboration with players and the opening of the Carbon Development platform's source code as a step towards realizing the vision that game development should be accessible to everyone. Project Awakening, a survival game set in the dark and dystopian part of space where humanity struggles to survive, embodies this philosophy by offering players new tools to add their own features and capabilities to the game.
