Crossmint acquired the NFT payment startup Winter

Mar 2, 2024

Crossmint, a blockchain platform for businesses, announced the acquisition of Winter, an NFT payment startup supported by Y Combinator. The deal amount was not disclosed, but it is known to have been financed in cash. Negotiations between the companies concluded last week.

As a result of the acquisition, Crossmint also announced the launch of a new product for cross-chain payments. Founded in February 2022, Crossmint currently serves over 30,000 companies, including well-known brands such as Mastercard, Etihad Airways, Johnny Walker, and AC Milan. The company offers a wide range of products, including embedded wallets, tokenization tools, payments, token management, and identification, and has 55 employees.

Winter, founded in 2021, specialized in payment infrastructure for NFTs, allowing users to purchase NFTs using fiat or cross-chain payments. The startup served hundreds of companies, including Fox Corporation, the National Football League, and Mythical Games. Despite the acquisition, none of Winter's six employees, including founder and CEO Michael Luo, will join the Crossmint team.

Crossmint's new product for cross-chain payments allows users to purchase NFTs on any blockchain network, paying with any cryptocurrency in a single transaction, significantly simplifying and reducing the cost of buying NFTs on various platforms. The acquisition of Winter expanded the capabilities of the new product, adding additional features and support for more blockchain networks.
