Uniswap Labs has named Katherine Minarik, a former legal executive at Coinbase, as its new chief legal officer (CLO). Minarik officially assumed this position at the well-known decentralized exchange Uniswap startup on Monday. Expressing her passion for the role through a post, she highlighted the transformative potential of DeFi in the crypto space.
Minarik's appointment coincides with Uniswap Labs potentially entering a legal dispute with U.S. federal regulators. In April 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a Wells Notice to Uniswap Labs, indicating its intent to pursue legal action against the startup for suspected violations of federal securities laws.
Minarik steps into the role previously held by Marvin Ammori, the former CLO at Uniswap Labs, who announced a planned shift to a part-time position at the startup starting in November.
As an attorney with extensive experience at Coinbase, Minarik faces the formidable task of navigating the intricate regulatory landscape concerning decentralized finance (DeFi) and digital assets. The SEC accused Uniswap Labs of running an unregistered securities exchange and contravening regulations.
Noteworthy performance was observed in the market for Uniswap's native token, UNI, attributed to the introduction of a privacy-focused update and delays in the governance vote related to delegation and staking rewards.
