Reports from local media sources revealed that two executives working for Binance have filed lawsuits against the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria. Tigran Gambaryan, who oversees financial crime compliance, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, who serves as a regional manager for Africa, submitted separate complaints to the Federal High Court in Abuja. Their requests to the court include releasing them, returning their passports, and issuing a public apology.
Both executives, accompanied by the company, were accused of tax evasion in Nigeria and were detained after arriving in the country for official discussions. Anjarwalla managed to escape custody recently. Central bank governor Olayemi Cardoso alleged that Binance was involved in moving large sums of naira without a trail, leading to exchange rate instability.
At a recent hearing, the agencies in question did not offer any defense. The case has been postponed until April 8. The lawsuits have been identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/356/24 and FHC/ABJ/CS/355/24.
