Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Decreases After Reaching Record High

Mar 28, 2024

After the latest recalculation, the difficulty of Bitcoin mining dropped by 0.97% to 83.13 T. The average hashrate during this period was 599.71 EH/s with a block time of 10 minutes and 7 seconds. This difficulty level determines the necessary hardware capacity for mining BTC and can impact the halving date, potentially occurring in April 2024.

According to Glassnode, the seven-day moving average hit 614.9 EH/s on March 24 before dropping to 586.1 EH/s. The Hashrate Index reported an increase in hash price from $108 per PH per day to $110 in the last 24 hours.

On March 14, Bitcoin mining difficulty reached an all-time high of 83.95 T, marking a 5.79% increase since the last adjustment. The average hashrate in the Bitcoin network also rose to 600.72 EH/s.

Bitfinex experts have expressed concerns about institutional funding favoring larger mining operations over individual and small miners, which could have lasting effects on the network dynamics. They believe that the influx of capital and professionalization of mining operations has led to increased security and stability in the network, fundamentally altering its incentive structure.
