Emart24 Introduces Bitcoin-Themed Meal Box in Collaboration with Bithumb

May 9, 2024

A popular South Korean convenience store chain, Emart24, is set to offer a unique food product - a meal box inspired by Bitcoin. This creative offering is a result of a partnership with a local cryptocurrency exchange known as Bithumb.

The collaboration between Emart24 and Bithumb marks a significant step towards making cryptocurrency-related products more accessible to the general public. By the end of the month, customers will be able to purchase 30,000 Bitcoin-themed meal boxes for $4.30 or 5,900 Korean won each.

Each Bitcoin meal box not only provides a tasty meal but also gives customers a chance to interact with cryptocurrency directly. Purchasers can take part in a Bitcoin giveaway valued at 10,000 Won by downloading the Bithumb app and entering a coupon code included in their meal box. This strategy not only promotes Bithumb's platform but also encourages people to engage with digital currencies.

The release of the Bitcoin meal box reflects a larger trend in South Korea where brands are increasingly incorporating cryptocurrencies into their marketing plans. For example, Upbit, a crypto exchange, has collaborated with K-pop idols to target international fans through an NFT platform, and MiL.k has joined forces with Shinsegae Duty-Free to offer crypto-based rewards.

This initiative by Bithumb is a part of a broader campaign to encourage cryptocurrency trading across South Korea. To attract new users, Bithumb is giving a sign-up bonus of 20,000 won worth of Bitcoin to new accounts linked to an NH Nonghyup bank account.

The launch of the Bitcoin meal box comes amid a period of increased regulatory attention on cryptocurrencies in South Korea. The country is preparing to introduce its initial regulatory framework for digital currencies on July 19, aimed at imposing stricter penalties on market manipulators and enhancing overall market integrity. There are also discussions about forming a Joint Virtual Asset Crime Investigation Unit involving the Justice Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The innovative partnership between Emart24 and Bithumb underscores the increasing integration of cryptocurrencies into everyday consumer experiences and the potential for such initiatives to bolster the wider adoption of digital currencies in South Korea.
