The founder of Binance, Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, is set to spend the next four months in a low-security federal prison located in Lompoc, California. This decision follows legal proceedings that resulted in a four-month jail sentence for Zhao for violating U.S. money laundering laws.

According to a report by CNBC, Zhao's legal team from Latham and Watkins confirmed the information. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, under the jurisdiction of Judge Richard Jones, handed down the four-month prison sentence to Zhao. Members of the cryptocurrency community have expressed strong support for Zhao, particularly applauding his decision to step down as CEO of Binance following the incident. Despite Zhao's legal team's initial request for probation based on concerns for his safety, citing his wealth and public figure status as factors that could make him vulnerable to threats, the request was not granted.
