Galaxy Digital, a digital bank established by Michael Novogratz, is on track to become the primary validator within the Solana network. This surge positions Galaxy Digital, a prominent cryptocurrency financial services firm founded by the well-known Bitcoin enthusiast Michael Novogratz, to outstrip Coinbase and secure the top spot in the Solana network validation domain, marking a noteworthy achievement in the competitive landscape of blockchain verification.
Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz points out that Galaxy Digital is set to claim the title of Solana's largest validator, mainly attributed to the recent FTX estate sale. The FTX estate reportedly sold a significant amount of locked-up SOL coins, ranging between 25 million and 30 million, at a price of $64 per coin.
Current statistics from Solana Beach indicate that Galaxy Digital holds the second position behind Coinbase, with a stake of 9.7 million SOL tokens. Mumtaz predicts that Galaxy Digital will surpass the well-known crypto exchange by June 22, with a projected annual revenue of $22 million from staking fees alone.
The exact quantity of SOL tokens acquired by Galaxy Digital remains undisclosed. According to Bloomberg, Galaxy Digital participated in the initial auction for FTX's locked SOL tokens and obtained tokens valued at around $620 million for a specialized fund. Forbes estimates that Galaxy may have obtained approximately 9,687,500 SOL tokens, equivalent to around $1.3 billion based on current market valuations.
Pantera Capital, a participant in the FTX auction, is optimistic about Solana's potential, seeing it as a competitor to Ethereum's dominant position in the blockchain ecosystem. In a recent newsletter, the Menlo Park-based firm praises Solana's growth over the past year, positioning it within a multi-polar model of blockchain platforms.
