**India’s ED Collaborates with FBI to Expose $360M Drug Trafficking Operation Using Cryptocurrency**

Apr 30, 2024

India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) has worked together with authorities in the United States to uncover a $360 million drug trafficking scheme involving cryptocurrencies. The ED partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and detained two individuals related to the operation following a tip from the FBI.

Reportedly, the individuals, Parvinder Singh and Banmeet Singh from Haldwani, Uttarakhand, were arrested on April 27 after local law enforcement conducted raids. They allegedly conducted their activities through dark web marketplaces and online ads to sell drugs and utilized various cryptocurrencies for payments.

The FBI has managed to seize around $180 million worth of digital currencies connected to the case, while the ED has confiscated critical documents. This isn’t the only illicit crypto operation revealed by the ED recently, as they also investigated Raj Kundra for his role in an $800 million Ponzi scheme named ‘Gain Bitcoin.’

These cases highlight the increasing instances of unlawful cryptocurrency use in India, leading to regulatory actions against several exchanges operating in the country to uphold anti-money laundering laws.
