Ondo Finance has announced the launch of Ondo Global Markets, a platform that allows non-U.S. investors to buy and sell tokenized versions of U.S. stocks and ETFs.
Overview of Ondo Global Markets
The platform is available for trading 24/7 on-chain, with mint and redeem windows aligned with traditional market hours. More than 100 stocks and ETFs are available at launch, with a plan to scale to over 1,000 by year-end. Ondo described this as 'the largest launch of tokenized equities in history.'
Access and Usage Conditions
Tokenized shares are available on Ethereum, with support for BNB Chain, Solana, and other networks coming soon. The platform is not available to retail or institutional users in the U.S. or U.K. Eligible investors in APAC, Europe, Africa, and Latin America can access the service, subject to local regulations.
How the Platform Works
When a user acquires, for example, AAPLon (a tokenized representation of Apple stock), Ondo buys the underlying AAPL through a U.S.-registered broker-dealer and holds it with a regulated custodian. The on-chain token is billed as a total return tracker, with dividends reflected in the token’s price.
Ondo Global Markets represents a significant step in the development of the tokenized securities market, and considering the growing interest in tokenized assets, its launch could significantly impact the industry overall.
