Ronin, the Ethereum sidechain designed specifically for the game Axie Infinity, has announced its move to Layer 2. This step is expected in the first half of 2026.
Transition to Layer 2
Ronin's move to Layer 2 is a response to the current changes in the blockchain ecosystem. While such transitions remain uncommon, the Ronin team aims to improve the efficiency and speed of its network.
Ethereum's Benefits for Ronin
Ronin stated that the transition to Layer 2 will allow it to leverage the strengths of the current state of Ethereum. In their blog, the team mentioned: 'Four years ago, we built Ronin because Axie Infinity needed a faster, more efficient network. However, now Ethereum is BACK.'
Tokenomics and Security Updates
RON will serve as the primary token used for transaction fees. Increased transaction speeds and a new Proof of Distribution tokenomics model aimed at rewarding active developers will significantly enhance the security of the network. Ronin also seeks to improve efficiency through new technologies, making Layer 2 operational costs lower.
Ronin's transition to Layer 2 promises encouraging prospects and represents a significant step in its development, especially amid rising competition in the blockchain space.
