After the significant theft, the scammer chose to reach out to the victim directly using Ethereum's blockchain, requesting contact information through Telegram. They returned 51 Ethereum (ETH) to the victim, approximately valued at $151,600.
This partial refund accounted for only 4.2% of the stolen funds. Along with this action, the scammer asked for further communication, promising to get in touch the following day.
In response, the victim demanded 90% of the stolen funds to be returned, emphasizing that Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) was traceable, making it challenging for the scammer to launder such a significant amount. A deadline of 10:00 am UTC on May 6, 2024, was set for compliance with this request.
Despite the turmoil, the value of Wrapped Bitcoin stood at $62,365.45, with a moderate increase over the past 24 hours. The cryptocurrency community is closely watching this rare development of direct interaction between a scammer and their victim.
